Welcome! My name is Ellis, and I’m a 29 year old engineer currently based in Sheffield. I am entirely self-taught, and this simple portfolio serves as a small window into my life.
My background in engineering stems from a childhood filled with all kinds of homemade contraptions, but I got “serious” about making things around age 15, when I picked up the slightly bonkers hobby of creating bespoke fighting robots. I quickly had to learn how to design, plan, build and manage these elaborate and intense projects, and this replaced formal education entirely. I was ultimately able to live several childhood dreams by competing on BBC Robot Wars from age 19-21, and soon after I entered the world of commercial product development using the skills I had gained.
After 5 or so years as an Electro-Mechanical Engineer in central London and then as a Robotics Engineer in Reading, I moved to Sheffield and leaned into my own company, Ranglebox Ltd. Since 2022 I have grown my business of selling bits and bobs to robotics enthusiasts whilst taking on engineering clients as a contractor.
When not thinking about designing, building or creating something (not very often) and like most 20-something year olds at some stage, I like to run, gym, climb or muse over making online content. I have enjoyed several TV appearances and social media highs over the years and I’m permanently looking towards future chapters of life.
